The Task

An international design firm requested our assistance in redeveloping the airport terminal to accommodate the growing number of passengers, provide a recommendation for the best retail concepts and potential operators, and develop a new concession contract for future retailers.

Our Approach

The redevelopment included changing passenger flows and identifying potential new operators. An international design company collaborated with the project team to develop a new layout plan and design strategy.

The project was carried out during the COVID period, and thus, in addition to the original scope of redeveloping the terminal, it was also extended to include adjustment plans for the commercial activities, focused on the best approach to managing the businesses during the lockdown and in the restart phase. This included the development of new commercial contracts to establish a passenger-based minimum payment. It has also meant supporting the airport team in renegotiating existing contracts, presentations, and meetings with potential new operators.

Furthermore, we devised a strategy tailored to the airport’s specific needs to optimise passenger flows and continually conceive innovative commercial concepts. This strategy was designed as a systematic business development plan to ensure continued efficient daily operation and high customer satisfaction while emphasising revenue maximisation through implementing management training.

The Result

New contracts have been implemented, and the first steps of the business optimisation strategy have started. In January 2024, the airport concession was awarded to a Colombian company, which is currently considering the future development of the terminal.
