The Task

Our client, SAS Trading, won the concession contract for operating retail outlets in the new Oslo Gardermoen airport. They required assistance with the final concept and design development, liaising with the airport operator, authorities and regulators in the pre-start-up phase and for hands-on support in implementing and opening the shops.

Our Approach

We collaborated closely with the airport’s architects and own designers to develop new customised shop concepts that were adjusted to the key passenger profiles at the airport. We also worked with local designers to develop shop designs that would perfectly integrate with the airport’s architectural vision, allowing it to become part of the surrounding nature. All materials used were of local origin, and the design was organic. Circulation patterns, colours, and displays created varied excitement and experiences in each unit.

The Result

Our client’s shops were the only ones to open within the airport’s deadline. The design is classic, timeless, and reflects the airport’s location, heritage, and surrounding nature. The practical set-up of the shops’ daily operations ensures an operation that generates a unique passenger experience and maximum financial results.
